Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert an AVIF to PNG with Converter App?
Drag and drop your .avif file onto the tool (or use the file picker) and click Convert. When the download is ready, save the .png.
Transparency is Safe: Unlike converting to JPG, converting to PNG keeps your transparent background. You don't need to worry about logos turning into white boxes.
Patience required: AVIF files are computationally heavy to decode. The conversion might take a few seconds longer than you are used to with other formats.
What exactly changes when an AVIF becomes a PNG?
You are moving from a modern, ultra-compressed web format to a widely compatible, lossless format.
Animation Removed: AVIF supports animation (like a GIF). Standard PNGs do not. If your AVIF moves, the PNG will be a static image of the first frame.
Compatibility Gained: Your image will now work in older browsers, photo editors, and office apps that don't support AVIF yet.
Quality Preserved: PNG is "lossless," meaning the conversion will not add any blur or artifacts.
Why is the converted PNG file so much larger than the original AVIF?
Answer: This is normal and expected. AVIF uses advanced video-style compression to make files incredibly tiny. PNG uses "lossless" compression, which saves every pixel perfectly.
Because you are "unpacking" a highly compressed file into a format that prioritizes accuracy over space, the file size can easily triple or quadruple (e.g., a 100KB AVIF becoming a 1MB PNG).
Will my colors look the same?
Color: Generally, yes. However, AVIF often uses HDR (High Dynamic Range) data. Since standard PNGs are usually SDR (Standard Dynamic Range), very bright neon colors or deep blacks might be slightly adjusted to look "normal" on standard screens.
Are my files private and secure?
Yes. All transfers occur over HTTPS. We process your file solely to perform the conversion and delete it shortly after. We do not look at or share your images.
Why did my conversion fail or why does the PNG look “off”?
The image stopped moving:
Reason: You converted an animated AVIF. Standard PNGs are static.
Quick Fix: If you need animation, convert your AVIF to GIF instead.
“Washed-out” colors:
Reason: The original AVIF likely used HDR settings that the browser preview struggles to display correctly.
Quick Fix: Download the file and view it in your computer’s native photo viewer; it often looks correct there.
Download is taking forever:
Reason: Because PNGs are much larger than AVIFs, a batch of small uploads can result in a massive download.
Quick Fix: Ensure you are on Wi-Fi and process fewer files at a time.
Upload failed:
Reason: AVIF files require a lot of computer memory to "unpack."
Quick Fix: Refresh the page to clear browser memory and try converting just one file at a time.
