Compress Video

You never have to touch codecs, bitrates or resolutions. Just upload your video (or pick one from Google Drive) and tell us what you want the result for — a smaller file, a specific size, sending it in a chat, posting to social media, and so on. The tool reads your video, then automatically chooses the right settings to match that goal. When it finishes, you download the ready file. That's the whole process.

Most videos shrink by 50–90%, depending on how they were recorded and the result you pick. Before anything runs, you'll see an estimated final size and the percentage of space you'll save, so there are no surprises. Quality stays high because the tool compresses intelligently rather than just slashing the bitrate — the Balanced setting keeps video that looks the same to the eye while removing the wasted data. Prefer more control? Choose Smaller file for maximum savings or Best quality to keep as much detail as possible.

You can upload virtually any common video — MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, WMV, FLV, M4V and more. By default you get back a standard MP4 (H.264 video, AAC audio) because it plays everywhere: phones, browsers, TVs, editing apps and messaging apps, with no extra software. If you'd rather pull the audio out of a clip, use our dedicated video-to-audio converters instead.

Stick with the default MP4 whenever you need the file to just work — texting it, emailing it, uploading to most platforms, or playing it on older phones and TVs. When you choose Compress or Target a size, you'll also see an optional “Squeeze it even smaller” switch: this saves the video as WebM (VP9), a more modern format that is typically around 30% smaller at the same quality. WebM is ideal for embedding on a website or for modern phones and browsers, but some older devices and a few apps can't open it — so we keep MP4 as the safe default and let you opt in only when it helps. Videos meant for a website automatically use WebM.

You can compress large videos — typical recordings and long clips are all fine. Timing depends on the video's length, resolution and the result you choose: short clips finish in a few seconds, while a long 4K video takes longer because it's being fully re-encoded for the best quality-to-size balance. A live progress bar shows exactly how far along the job is, so you always know how much is left.

Nothing to install and nothing to sign up for — it runs entirely in your browser on any device, whether you're on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android or iPhone. Your video is uploaded over a secure connection, compressed on our server, and then automatically deleted a short time later. Files are never shared or reused, and if you import from Google Drive we only access the single file you pick.
